Our Yarn Meter was based on a highly innovative design concept and was the first to fully leverage the fishing meter and to utilize it with a solidly designed wooden base and clamping system.

We have noticed recently that some other "companies" have tried to copy our design but they have fallen short.

When we designed the yarn meter we hired a wood craftsman and a mechanical engineer to assist in the design. Combined with our in-depth knowledge of knitting and spinning, we worked as a team to combine the very best design and manufacturing concepts into this product while meeting the needs of fiber artists.

As a result, we did the following:

• We made the unit small, portable and lightweight. We even offered a custom designed denim case so you could carry the unit with you.
• We used a highly innovative wooden yarn guide system which allows the user to remove the yarn from the meter posts without breaking it. Plus it will not snag your yarn.
• We incorporated a sturdy clamping system using custom designed bolts and clamping blocks. This clamp securely holds the meter base to any surface. Units without such a clamp will either move across the table or have to be so heavy as to make them non-portable. We also use high quality, non-marring 3M, high friction, feet that protect your furniture.
• We open up each meter and modify it to work better with yarn (remember, these meters were designed for fishing line, not yarn). Our modification ensures that they will work with yarn more smoothly. We also perform some basic tests on each meter during the assembly process.
• We provide extensive instructions with each unit. We know what it can and cannot do and we tell the user what to look out for.
• We field tested the unit extensively prior to mass production.
• We are the highest volume manufacturer of Yarn Metering systems in the world.
• We purchase more fishing line meters from Shakespeare Fishing Tackle than any other single non-fishing buyer in the world (we even buy more than most fishing chain stores!).
